CHELSEA EYEING RETURN TO VICTORY WAYS

Chelsea fans have had to endure with the poor run of results shown by their team since club football return this month after the last international break of the season. They have seen Chelsea lose heavily at home in quick succession in the Premier League and the Champions League since the international break ended.

Thomas Tuchel and his players were beaten by London rivals Brentfordand Spnaish La Liga leaders Real Madrid to make it two successive defeats in all competitions. They would be hoping to stop the poor run when they take on Southampton in the Premier League this weekend. It must be pointed out that Chelsea are favourites ahead of the Southampton game at the St. Mary’s Stadium on Saturday according to the soccer betting odds from various soccer betting sites.

Premier League newcomers Brentford were massive underdogs ahead of their short trip to Stamford Bridge for the West London Derby according to the soccer betting odds from soccer betting sites and it was surprising that the Bees exploited the poor defensive organisation from Chelsea in the second half to record an impressive 4-1 win over the Blues. It was the first victory over Chelsea for Brentford in almost eight decades.

German defender Antonio Rudiger had given Chelsea the lead with a long-range effort at the start of the second half and one would have thought the European champions would cruise to a win. Instead, they went on to collapse defensively conceding four goals to VitalyJanelt  (brace), substitute YoaneWissa and Christian Eriksen who scored his first goal for the club.

Chelsea made it two straight losses when French player Karim Benzema scored a hat-trick to lead Real Madrid to a 3-1 victory at Stamford Bridge in the first leg of their last eight tie in the Champions League. Chelsea would be keen to get back to winning ways against the Saints this weekend to serve as a morale booster ahead of the second leg of their Champions League quarterfinal tie with Real Madrid next week Tuesday.
