France Fancied to go the Distance

With the domestic football season across Europe reaching its climactic final throes, the anticipation for Euro 2016 this summer is bubbling under quite nicely.

If we can quieten the little voice in our heads that nags us about potential injuries and loss of form, now is as good a time as any to place our bets on who will win the tournament; expect prices – particularly those of the favourites – to be squeezed in the coming weeks and months.

Here’s a quick overview of the main contenders: Continue reading “France Fancied to go the Distance”

Manchester City are taking on Manchester United this weekend

Manchester City are taking on Manchester United this weekend and it will provide a great picture of the team that is likely to finish in the top four this season.

City are the favourites to qualify for the Champions League next season with odds of 3/10. United, who have been in terrible form over the last few months, at backed at a distant 4/1. Even though City themselves have been in a poor run of form as far as the Premier League is concerned, they can be comfortable knowing that they have the home advantage in this game.

United have already missed out on the top four in recent times, but City cannot afford to do the same at this stage. The club will be bringing in Pep Guardiola – one of the renowned managers in the world – next season and the former Barcelona manager will struggle to attract players if the club finds itself in the Europa league next season. Pellegrini is on his way out, but he is determined to do a great job in the remainder of the campaign. He has already led the club to Capital One Cup success, which is the second of his City regime, and the club has qualified for the quarter-finals of the Champions League for the first time in their history.

Aguero is rated at 6/5 to score at any time in the game. These are great odds given that the strikerhas been in fine form over the last 10 games. Aguero, however, has not scored since his two goals against Aston Villa in the 4-0 win a few weeks ago. Even though City win this game, it is unlikely to improve chances of winning the title. After only nine points behind table leaders Leicester City, the important objective for the club will now be to finish in the top four.

Manchester United suffered another disappointing result on a night when financial aspects took centrestage. A 2-0 loss against Liverpool in the first leg of the Europa League encounter between the two teams puts United at a major disadvantage as far as qualifying for the next stage is concerned.

The FA cup resumes with a fourth-round action involving MK Dons and Chelsea

The FA cup resumes with a fourth-round action involving MK Dons and Chelsea.

This will be one of the most watched encounters in all of England due to intense rivalry between the two teams. There appeared to be a great chance for MK Dons to get something out of the game when Chelsea were in poor form a few months ago. However, this has all changed after the appointment of Guus Hiddink. The club now have the longest unbeaten record in the English top division. Chelsea continued this impressive revival in fortunes with a 1-0 win over Arsenal last weekend.

The fact that the blues were able to comfortably beat the team favourites for the title says a lot about their revival. This has been a major factor in the club getting through into the fifth round quite comfortably. Bookmakers are backing the West London outfit at around 11/2 to get a win in this away match, while MK Dons are pretty far behind despite being the home team. The Championship team has managed just two wins in the last five games. One of those victories came against lower league opposition in the FA Cup. MK Dons required a replay to overcome League Two Northampton Town. Hence, the team are backed at around 200/1 for a win.
