Manchester United boss praises Marcus Rashford after Liverpool draw

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has praised the performance of Marcus Rashford during the weekend’s 0-0 league draw against Liverpool. The England international had sustained an ankle problem within the opening minute of the game but he managed to keep going for the entire 90 minutes with three other teammates suffering hamstring injuries during the first half itself.

Speaking after the game, Ole praised Rashford as a ‘warrior’ after he was able to play the entire game despite a swelling on his ankle, he told Sky Sports: “Marcus is a warrior and he’s a Manc and he knows what this game means. We had to keep him on, because we already had to make three subs. It seemed like it was their plan, to just kick him, because they kept kicking him from the first minute. If that’s not an accumulation of fouls I don’t know. But he stayed on. His ankle is like a balloon, so it was a fantastic attitude by him. He’s angry, because of how many fouls they did on him.”

Rashford has been one of the most improved players under the guidance of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and he has already contributed six goals and two assists with the Norwegian at the helm. Nonetheless, the latest injury setback could keep him sidelined for a short while and that should add to the United concerns with several other players in the treatment room.

Juan Mata, Ander Herrera and Jesse Lingard picked up hamstring issues against the Reds which should rule them out of the midweek clash at Crystal Palace and they could be joined by other key players including Nemanja Matic, Anthony Martial and Rashford himself. Martial has yet to completely recover from a groin problem while Ole has confirmed that Matic could be out for a few weeks with a muscular concern.
