Arsenal’s win on Tuesday will have done little to calm the nerves of both Arsenal fans and Arsenal players. Whilst there were certainly positives to take from the victory over Shrewsbury (like Oxade-Chamberlain’s performance), there were still more than a few dodgy performances – enough for us to be worried about the game this weekend against Bolton. At least it’s at home this time!
Arsene Wenger’s thoughts on Bolton have changed since ‘Big Sam’ Allardyce moved on, and we’ve actually been pretty pally with new boss Owen Coyle (loaning out various players over the last few years), but we should still expect a physical match (something we’ve not been great at of late), with the notorious Kevin Davies leading the kicking, punching and scratching!
Kieran Gibbs is at least ready to scrap for it all, as is Aaron Ramsey who should be passed fit for this match. Djourou is out, which might be a blessing in disguise, as we try to build and instil some more confidence in the back-line.
Up-front we’ve looked good – Gervinho’s movement and power have helped us break teams down, and however badly we did at the back last week, we actually scored three good goals. Hopefully Mertesacker will be fully settled in to the backline by now, and can help us take all 3 points.
