UNITED LOOK TO STRENGTHEN

Manchester United are extremely keen on strengthening their midfield, which was one of the poorest last season. The team managed to win the league title almost single-handedly because of the exploits of striker Robin van Persie. Hence, new manager David Moyes has made it a priority to strengthen the midfield before the start of the season. In the last few months, United have been linked with moves for Everton’s Marouane Fellaini and Barcelona’s Thiago Alcantara. However, none would have seen the official offer from United coming for former Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas.

The Spaniard is understood to be contemplating his future at the camp Nou after just a few years following his return in a £ 35 million deal from Arsenal. He has won first team opportunities limited at the club. Even when he plays, he is used as a false number nine whereas he believes his best position is in the midfield. United see Fabregas as the perfect replacement for Paul Scholes, who retired from playing for the second time in his career last season. Alcantara was the first player targeted for this position, but he has decided to join Bayern Munich.

United have made an offer of around £ 26 million, but Barcelona have stated that the player is not for sale.

“I’ve always said that I’m happy at Barca. Whoever says that I’m leaving doesn’t know me and has never spoken with me. Nor with my agent, because he knows that I don’t want him to talk with other people about me. I’m very private and I don’t even talk about these things with my family. If someone says anything that isn’t that I want to play at Barca, it’s completely absurd,” said Fabregas a few months back.

However, it is believed that he would consider an offer from a club like United.
